Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “insulting Indian democracy” and doing politics in the name of his family.
Addressing reporters in Kullu, Ranaut rejected Gandhi’s allegations of “vote theft” against the BJP as baseless. She said the BJP was receiving public support even in states where it was not in power.
Ranaut cited student politics, panchayat-level elections, and other local contests, claiming the BJP was winning support in those elections as well.
The Mandi MP alleged that Rahul Gandhi had not worked at the grassroots level and only raised issues for a few days. She claimed that whenever sustained ground-level work was needed, he would go abroad.
Ranaut said the BJP, in contrast, worked at the grassroots and regularly interacted with people to address their concerns. She attributed the party’s support across the country to these efforts and alleged that Congress leaders were facing defeats in different elections.
Questioning Congress’ allegations of electoral malpractice, Ranaut said the BJP also won elections where electronic voting machines (EVMs) were not used.
She said the results of such elections, according to her, showed that the Congress’ allegations of “vote theft” were unfounded.
