The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided to hold monthly protests at the mandal level across Himachal Pradesh to oppose Congress government policies that it described as anti-people. The party took the decision at a Kullu district BJP meeting in Mohal, attended by state party president Dr Rajeev Bindal, who said it would also run similar campaigns at the booth level to highlight issues affecting the public.
Bindal accused the state government of taking decisions that adversely affected ordinary residents. He claimed that the state had discontinued more than 250 Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus routes, creating difficulties for commuters, particularly those in rural areas who depended on public transport.
He further alleged that HRTC had withdrawn facilities previously available to women and senior citizens. On subsidised ration, Bindal claimed that prices had increased and supplies were not reaching ration depots on time. He also alleged that ration not supplied in a particular month was not adjusted in the following month’s allocation, adding to the burden on economically weaker families.
Bindal said the BJP would raise these and other public-interest issues through protests to be held across the state in the coming months.
