The Chandigarh Golf Association (CGA) will host India’s first Pitch & Putt League (PPL) from December 6 to 13, with eight teams and 80 players competing in the inaugural edition.

The CGA unveiled the league’s official logo, announcing that the competition would be held at its course under the aegis of the Indian Pitch & Putt Association (IPPA). Each team will comprise 10 players.

CGA president RK Pachnanda, a retired IPS officer, said the league aimed to make golf more accessible and provide aspiring players with a structured platform to compete and develop their skills.

Munish Arora, founder president of the IPPA, said pitch & putt was a shorter format of golf that focused on precision, short-distance shots and putting. Unlike conventional golf, which is generally played over 18 holes on a larger course, pitch & putt uses a compact course with shorter holes.

He said the format emphasised accuracy, touch and control, making it suitable for beginners while offering a competitive challenge to experienced players.

CGA vice-president Siddharth Kumar said the two organisations aimed to widen participation, introduce more people to golf and create opportunities for aspiring players to hone their skills in a competitive environment.

The league is expected to promote awareness of pitch & putt in India and encourage grassroots participation.

CGA treasurer Puneet Sood, general secretary Karan Mahajan and joint secretaries Sorabh Tayal and Sandeep Sarup Sehgal were also present at the logo unveiling.

The competition will mark the launch of a dedicated league platform for Pitch & Putt in India, with organisers focusing on accessibility, participation and skill development.
