Rajpura based author Jashan Singh Pawar, who previously worked as a feature writer with national dailies, explores Self-awareness and the importance of connecting with one’s inner self in his debut book, From Birth to Being.
Talking to The North News, Jashan, who is currently associated with website development and also runs his own company named Apollobranders, says, “Writing has remained a constant part of my life since childhood. The idea for the book emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when I began journaling my thoughts and experiences. I completed the book by the end of 2023 and subsequently released it.” The book is a journey of how one can simplify the seemingly petty troubles of our lives by turning inward and rediscovering the preexisting treasures within us.
On his inspiration behind writing the book, Jashan informs, “I do not take complete credit for the book because I believe it was written through me by the Universe. The central idea of the book is about finding one’s way back to oneself. People begin life with simplicity and purity but gradually become influenced by social media, relationships, careers, expectations and the opinions of others and that is when we lose track of the real us.” Adding more, Jashan says, “people facing confusion or desperation in life often look for answers to the pressing questions in their life from friends, family, social media or other sources, whereas spending time with oneself can help bring clarity. You have to be a good best friend to yourself.”
Jashan’s book also lists some meditation ideas which are not intended as formal lessons or instructions, but reflect his own experiences and observations about the human journey. The book compares our consciousness to a GPS system; he says, “Our consciousness is an internal ability that can help us navigate through life’s ups and downs and help us in taking important decisions involving careers, relationships, marriage, besides other aspects of life, and it is generally right. Sometimes people have an inner feeling that a particular relationship may not work in the long run, and over a period of time they realise the bitter truth of that feeling being right. There is always a light blinking somewhere subconsciously, telling us that this thing in question may not be right for us.”
Jashan believes making decisions after genuinely listening to oneself can help reduce regrets later. The book also sees him comparing personal growth with cultivating crops such as wheat or rice, which require months to grow: “inner transformation cannot always happen immediately. A person dealing with confusion today may need a few months, or even longer to gain clarity. Hope is also an important strength to cultivate in life. It can make a person pass through even the most difficult phases of life with ease,” he quips.
Pawar’s experience working as a journalist before moving into his family business helped him write the book. Talking about switching careers, Jashan says, “Although I have a passion for journalism, I had to switch to my family business because I felt the profession was financially difficult to sustain and did not provide enough security for my family. However, my interest in writing continued, and I realised that writing continued to be an important part of my identity.”
Through his book from Birth to Being, Jashan wants to encourage people to pause, listen to themselves, and reconnect with the person they are beneath external expectations and influences piled on them by society.
The book is available on Amazon, Kindle, and Flipkart.
