As tourist footfall increases in Dharamshala, McLeodganj and Bir on weekends, the Kangra police and district administration have stepped up arrangements to ensure visitor safety and keep traffic moving smoothly. Authorities have made registration mandatory for tourists heading to the Triund trek, urging trekkers to follow safety guidelines and travel with guides.
Kangra Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said tourist arrivals at major destinations across the district rise significantly during weekends. Additional traffic police personnel are deployed as required to manage congestion, prevent inconvenience to visitors and reduce the risk of untoward incidents.
Verma said tourists must register at Bhagsu before proceeding to Triund and pay the prescribed fee. The Forest Department is assisting the administration, with forest guards and Van Mitras deployed along the trekking route to guide visitors and monitor safety arrangements.
Signboards displaying safety instructions and precautions have also been installed at various points along the route. Local shopkeepers and guides are helping raise awareness among trekkers about safety measures to be followed during the journey.
Appealing particularly to tourists arriving from other states, the SP urged visitors to complete registration and provide accurate personal details before starting the trek. He said maintaining a record of trekkers would help the administration respond more effectively in an emergency or in the event of an untoward incident.
Verma also asked tourists to comply with instructions issued by the police and Forest Department and prioritise safety while trekking.
