The Paragliding Accuracy Pre-World Cup at Solang Nala in Manali saw intense competition on its second day, with 42 pilots, including one woman, taking part in precision-landing events. Participants competed over six rounds to demonstrate their accuracy and flying skills in the four-day championship.
Manali Hoteliers Association president Roshan Thakur attended the event as the chief guest and was welcomed by the president of the Manali Paragliding Association. The championship is scheduled to conclude on October 12 and is expected to boost adventure tourism in the region.
Manali Paragliding Association secretary Naresh Thakur said the competition followed safety protocols throughout. He said only pilots certified by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) were participating in the event, organised under the federation’s Category 2 framework.
Teams from the Indian Air Force, army and paramilitary forces are also participating in the championship, which features two main competition categories. Thakur said the Manali Paragliding Association had taken the initiative to organise a championship of this level for the first time.
Participants said the competition grew more exciting with each round and hoped the event would attract more tourists to Manali. The pilots said they were focused on delivering their best performances as the contest progressed.
Alisha Katoch, the competition’s only female pilot, said she was enthusiastic about competing alongside male pilots. She described the event as an opportunity for men and women to compete on the same platform and said she had completed her third round.
Solang Nala, known for its scenic landscape and adventure sports, is hosting the championship to promote Manali as a destination for competitive adventure sports.
