Some farewells are like the final scene of a film, filled with warm memories. In remembering Nana, Shahrukh did not simply bid farewell to the legendary actor; he opened the pages of friendship, laughter, affection and memories that will last with him forever.
While remembering Nana he penned an emotional message where he recalled his first memory of meeting him and being so overwhelmed that he began fiddling with his hair. Nana, in his trademark manner, stopped him and told him, “Hero ki tarah baal mat bana… tu actor hai!” For Shah Rukh, those words perfectly captured Nana’s personality — honest, fearless and never interested in simply telling people what they wanted to hear.
Their friendship was equally unconventional. Shah Rukh recalled how Nana had a unique way of expressing affection. He could shout, argue and even insult you, only for you to realise moments later that the anger had somehow turned into an embrace. Away from the cameras, the two also shared memorable carrom games. Shah Rukh recalled Nana defeating everyone around him and enjoying every victory.
Amid all those cherished memories, Shah Rukh’s tribute carried a quiet wish — for just a little more time with Nana, one more conversation, one more laugh and perhaps one last game of carrom.
Remembering Nana as a mentor, teacher, critic and friend, Shah Rukh also recalled his advice to never lose the actor while chasing the image of a hero.
For Shah Rukh, Nana’s absence has left a void that goes beyond cinema. His tribute became a farewell not just to a legendary actor, but to a friend whose memories will continue to feel like scenes from a beautiful, unfinished film.
