Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula witnessed a sudden spell of heavy rain and hail on Wednesday afternoon, bringing a drop in temperature and relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
The weather changed abruptly across the Tricity and adjoining areas, with several parts of Panchkula reporting rain accompanied by hail. The spell also affected rural areas, where farmers faced difficulty in protecting crops stored in the open at mandis.
At the Raipur Rani mandi in Panchkula, produce kept in the open was drenched in the rain, raising concerns among farmers over possible damage if the wet conditions persisted.
Rain and hail were reported from several parts of Panchkula, while water accumulated on roads at some locations following the heavy spell.
The weather turned relatively pleasant after the rain, with residents across the Tricity getting respite from the heat and humidity. However, farmers at Raipur Rani remained concerned about the condition of produce exposed to the sudden spell.
No assessment of crop damage was immediately available.
