Virat Kohli’s spokesperson on Wednesday rejected claims that the former India captain was paid Rs 5 crore to visit spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj’s ashram in Vrindavan, calling the allegations “completely false, baseless and factually incorrect”.
In an official statement issued on the social media on Wednesday, the spokesperson said Kohli visits Premanand Maharaj “purely out of his deep faith and reverence” for the spiritual leader.
“We strongly refute these claims,” the statement said, while urging the media to exercise due diligence, verify facts before reporting or amplifying such statements, and report responsibly.
The statement follows claims made by Falahari Maharaj Dinesh Sharma regarding Kohli’s association with Premanand Maharaj. Sharma is president of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas.
Kohli’s spokesperson did not provide further details in the statement but categorically rejected the claims concerning the cricketer.
